Lewis Jerald Cabello: A Life Remembered
Lewis Jerald Cabello, aged 83, of Canino, Italy, formerly of Ransomville, NY, passed away peacefully on March 30, 2024, at the Nouva Santa Teresa Hospital in Viterbo, Italy.
Lewis, a man of remarkable resilience and unwavering determination, defied medical expectations and embraced life with courage and grace until the very end.
Born on July 3, 1940, in the vibrant city of Niagara Falls, he was the son of the late Frank Cabello and Jenny (Moryto).
Lewis embarked on a journey filled with purpose and passion. He proudly served his country as a Reserves Airman in the United States Air Force, being honorably discharged on August 16, 1968.
Lewis leaves behind a legacy of love and devotion, cherished by his loving family. He is survived by his sons, Lewis J. Cabello II of Georgia, and James F. (Maria) Cabello of Canino, Italy, his daughter, Christina M. (Shaun) Johnston of Burt, and his grandchildren Andrew, Matthew, and Joshua of Georgia, Chiara, and Francesco of Canino, Italy, as well as two great-grandchildren, Colton, and Stella.
He is reunited in eternal peace with his beloved late wife, Nancy A. Cabello, who preceded him in death in May of 2019, after 53 years of marriage (September 17, 1966).
Lewis will be lovingly remembered by his older sisters Patricia Butera (late Angelo) and Frances Garcia (Celestino), as well as sister-in-law Beth (Kim) Cushing, several nieces, nephews, and friends. In addition to his parents, Lewis was predeceased by his eldest sister, Virginia Migliazzo (late Frank), and siblings-in-law James, Gary, and Gail Schmidt.
A man of boundless ingenuity and industrious spirit, Lewis dedicated over 30 years of his life as a master mechanic at American Brass in Buffalo, earning him the affectionate nickname "Big Lew." His tireless work ethic and commitment to excellence set a standard that inspired all who knew him. Beyond his professional achievements, Lewis found joy in the simple pleasures of life. An avid model
railroad enthusiast, he poured his creativity into crafting intricate landscapes and vibrant locomotives.
He cherished time spent outdoors, camping with his family, and pursuing DIY landscaping projects. Above all, Lewis treasured moments shared with his loved ones. Whether hosting family gatherings, engaging in DIY projects, or simply enjoying the company of his children and grandchildren, he found true happiness in their presence.
Friends and family are invited to honor Lewis's memory at a celebration of his life. Visitation will be held at Rhoney Funeral Home Monday evening, April 15th, from 4:00-7:00 pm at 901 Cayuga St, Lewiston, NY. Lewis’s Mass of Christian Burial will take place at St. Bernard's Catholic Church, 218 Hinman Street, Youngstown, NY, at 10:00 am. Everyone please assemble at the church. After Military honors, Lewis will find eternal rest in the tranquil beauty of Gate of Heaven Cemetery Mausoleum in Lewiston, NY.
While flowers are welcomed, donations may be made in Lewis's memory to the American Cancer Society, a cause dear to his heart.
As we bid farewell to our beloved Lewis, let us take comfort in knowing that he now rests in eternal peace, reunited with his beloved wife, Nancy, and surrounded by the love of those who have gone before him.
