Donald Smith

Of Lewiston, NY, passed away on Thursday, February 26, 2026, at his home under the care of his family and Niagara Hospice.  He was born in Buffalo, NY on September 29, 1938, a son of the late Henry and Ruth [Baker] Smith.

Mr. Smith was a graduate of Bishop Duffy and the University of Buffalo.

He served with the US Navy under contract for 38 years, retiring as a Chief Petty Officer and was employed with DuPont for many years before retiring. Mr. Smith played basketball and softball in his youth and later enjoyed playing golf and taking fish trips.

He had a special bond with each of his grandchildren. Mr. Smith along with his daughter, were avid Bills fans and enjoyed going to games together.

He is survived by his wife of 64 years Joanne M. [Egert] Smith, his children Suzanne, Alison (Edward) Lilly,  Martin, and Thomas, six grandchildren Joseph, Allissa, David, Wyatt, Peter and William, siblings David (Linda), Herbert (Marcia) and Kenneth (Linda) Smith, Patricia (Robert) Martin, Janet Smith and Kathleen (late John) Opera, a sister-in-law Ann Smith, also many nieces and nephews.

Mr. Smith was the father of the late Thomas, Paul and Frances Smith and brother of the late Nicholas, Charles and Timothy Smith.

His family will be present on Tuesday, March 3rd from 3-7 PM at the RHONEY FUNERAL HOME, 901 Cayuga Street, LEWISTON, NY.
Everyone is invited to attend his Mass of Christian Burial on Wednesday at 10:00AM at St. Peter's Church, 620 Center Street, Lewiston, NY.

Memorials may be made in his name to Niagara Hospice, 4675 Sunset Drive, Lockport, NY  14094.
