Richard A. Braas

 
Of Niagara Falls, NY,  passed away on Thursday, November 6, 2025, under the care of his nieces in Adamstown, MD.    He was born in Niagara Falls, NY, on September 14, 1943, a son of the late Paul and Mabel [Gates] Braas.

Mr. Braas attended local schools, graduating from Bishop Duffy High School in 1961 and Canisius College in 1965 with a Bachelor's degree in English. He later graduated from Niagara University with a Master of Arts in teaching in 1969.

In 1966, he began his career at Niagara Falls High School where he spent 32 happy years teaching English.

In addition to teaching,he enjoyed reading, movies and traveling to many European Countries, from Ireland to Russia, with his late sister and nieces.  He avidly followed the Baltimore Orioles, Buffalo Bills, and Notre Dame football.  In his leisure time, he attended many sports events, enjoyed watching Jeopardy and CNN.  He also volunteered in retirement, delivering Meals on Wheels for eighteen years.

A devout Catholic, Richard was a lifetime communicant at St. Teresa's and later at St. Raphael's Church. 

Richard was proud of his family, friends, and students.  He appreciated his friendship with Virginia, Elaine,  Richard, and Lenor who were his classmates at St. Teresa's School in the 1950's.

Richard leaves behind eighteen beloved nieces and nephews, 32 great nieces and nephews and 19 great-great nieces and nephews. 

He was the brother of the late Virginia ( Bernard)  Zeifang,  Marilyn (Jack) Carr, Patricia (Rod) Irish, Paul (Tanis Pedlow) Braas and the uncle of Jack Carr.

Richard was grateful to his beloved family, especially nieces, Cathy Conner, Patty Horton,

and Mary Ann Vailas,  nephew Mark Carr, who greatly aided him in his final years. 

He also would like to thank the many neighbors who watched over him these past few years.

His Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Friday, April 24, 2026 at St. Mary's of the Cataract Church, 237 4th Street, Niagara Falls, NY, 14303.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Heart , Love and Soul or Community Missions.

Inurnment in Riverdale Cemetery.
